Masks Mandatory is a 3D isometric Voxel-like game created for the AIE Winter Game Jam 2020!

The theme for this game was "Connection". I worked as a Game and Level Designer for the project but also plugged up holes where needed. This resulted in me working on Art, Programming, and UI where needed. This project was created with a team of three artists, a producer, another designer, and me! Each of us felt a great amount of growth from this project so make sure to check it out!

In Masks Mandatory you play as an employee at the local 8-12(not to be confused with 7-11).

While your co-worker mans the register you are tasked with the upkeep of the store. The catch however is that all of this takes place at the height of the pandemic, and your store is being flooded with maskless customers! You must maintain a high enough health standard in order to stay open by sanitizing the dirty hotdog table, the bathroom, and fixing the Slushee machine when it acts up. These three tasks must be managed while also tossing masks onto customers who don't have one or take theirs off. If a customer reaches your immunocompromised co-worker their chance of catching the virus increases! You can't hold a million masks however so you will have to also manage your inventory. The combination of task and threat management combined with the setting creates a surprisingly frantic game loop worthy of replaying a few times. Check it out on our itch page!

Involvment

  • Level Design! The level for this was very simple, as it was simply meant to be a knockoff seven eleven. I did however prop place everything, but also create multiple assets within unity to match our style.

  • UI. I built the pixel art UI and integrated it. It was simple but worked.

  • Programming. I did a lil programming, primarily for the UI/Menu's.

  • Collaboration. We worked as a team to build this project in less than two days. It was one of my smoother game jams.
